Safety Tips for Mobile Devices

Smartphones - Cell Phones - Tablets

The use of the Internet and Apps on mobile devices is growing in popularity.  Because of this, it's important to know the potential risks when using mobile devices and ways to protect yourself.  Here are some things to consider:

Set passwords and auto lockout features.  Be sure your password is not easy to guess, and employ the use of an auto lockout feature when the device is inactive.

Update your software.  Apple and Andriod have security upgrades for their software.  Upgrades are not always automatic, so check your mobile device to see if your softwear is up-to-date.

Install anti-malware software onto your phone. There are a number of software services available to help protect against software attacks such as a virus, worm or Trojan horse.

Security for Online Banking on a computer also applies to phones. Guard against email and text message scams that attempt to get your personal information. Do not share personal information via email or text messages. LA Financial never solicits personal information.

Take care when using Wi-Fi. If you use Wi-Fi, be sure to use a secure Wi-Fi connection when conducting personal business on a mobile device. Free Public Wi-Fi access that does not require a user name and password is not secure. For websites that require login, look for he letter "s" in the "https" web site address and encrypted software or the lock symbol.  LA Financial's Mobile Banking Site and Apps are encrypted which means they are protected.

Download secure apps from reliable sources. Be sure you are downloading from an original source store. Links or unreliable sources have the potential for obtaining malware or a virus.  LA Financial Apps for Apple and Android ar secure and ony available from the Apple iTunes App Store or Google Play Store.
